In our BioBlitz video, hundreds of elementary school students descended on Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on May 15, 2015 for a day of scientific discovery. The young scientists-in-training were helping to put together a comprehensive list of the plants, insects, mammals, birds, and other species in the park. The park’s 35th annual Cultural Festival was moved from July to May to coincide with the BioBlitz. The festival featured hands-on science and cultural exhibits, food, art, and Hawaiian music and dance performances. All in all, six thousand people over the course of two days attended the BioBlitz and festival.
